How do I Create an Assignment with a Bibliography
Follow the steps below to create an assignment that includes a bibliography. This feature allows you to enable citation tools and specify various bibliography requirements for your students.
Step 1: Access the Assignments Tab
Navigate to the Assignments tab from the main dashboard.
If you don’t see your assignments list, toggle the view using the hamburger icon or list icon on the left side to open the Assignments List.
Select the assignment you’re working on, or click New Assignment to create a new one.
Step 2: Enable Bibliography Features
In your assignment, go to the Requirements tab.
From the sub-tabs, select the Bibliography tab.
The Scrible default is a checked box for Enable bibliography and citation features.
If your assignment does not require a bibliography, uncheck the Enable bibliography and citation features box. Students will not see the Bibliography tab in their assignment library.
Step 3: Configure Bibliography Options
Once the bibliography features are enabled, you can customize the following options:
Citation Style: Select the preferred citation style from the dropdown menu (e.g., MLA, APA, Chicago).
Annotated Bibliography: Check this option if you want students to include an annotated bibliography. This requires students to add brief explanations or notes for each citation.
- Word Count for Citation Annotations: If using an annotated bibliography, you can set a word count requirement for each annotation. Even if set to 0, a metric for word count progress will appear in your dashboard.
Split Bibliography: For certain projects, such as National History Day, you may need students to submit a split bibliography (e.g., separating primary and secondary sources). Check the Split Bibliography option if this applies.
Number of Sources Required: Set a required number of sources for the bibliography. Even if the source requirement is set to 0, the assignment dashboard will display the number of sources added by students, allowing you to track their progress.
Step 4: Review and Finalize
After enabling and configuring the bibliography settings, select the correct citation style and options. Once finalized, these features will appear in your students’ assignment library.
Summary of Bibliography Features
- Citation Style: Choose between MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.
- Annotated Bibliography: Option to include citation annotations.
- Word Count for Annotations: Track the word count of each annotation (even if set to 0).
- Split Bibliography: Separate sections for different types of sources.
- Source Requirement: Set the number of required sources and monitor student progress through the assignment dashboard.
