Setting Library Access: Public or Private in Scrible EDU Pro
Scrible allows you to control the privacy of your library to suit your needs. This article explains how to manage library access settings and provides details on the privacy and sharing features for free and Pro account users. Click here to see our guide to setting permissions for class libraries and individual students listed as collaborators.
Overview of Library Access Settings
With Scrible EDU Pro, you can set your library access as public or private:
- Public: Anyone with the link can view your library contents.
- Private: Only specific individuals granted access can view your library.
Key Terms
- Snapshot: Instead of "image," we use the term snapshot to describe the saved pages or resources in your library.
Privacy of Data
Here’s how privacy works across free and Pro accounts:
Free Accounts
- Saved snapshots in free accounts are not publicly searchable, ensuring that others cannot find them through search engines or public directories.
- Snapshots are publicly available to anyone with the unique URL you share.
- Each URL contains a random 32-character identifier to prevent guessing and ensure a reasonable level of security.
Pro Accounts
- Upgrading to the Pro Plan provides enhanced privacy options.
- You can set your library to private, restricting access to your snapshots unless explicitly shared.
- You can further disable access for everyone except named individuals.
Private Library Access
When you share a private library with specific individuals, they will need to:
- Register for a free Scrible account if they don’t already have one.
- Authenticate to access the pages or snapshots in your private library.
By upgrading to the Pro Plan, you gain the ability to tightly control who can view your content, providing additional peace of mind for sensitive materials.
How to Set Library Access
- Log in to your Scrible account.
- Navigate to your library.
- From the kebab menu in the upper right, select the Collaborator Settings (Person icon) in the library view.
- Choose Public or Private under library access settings.
- If selecting Private, ensure that the appropriate individuals are added to your sharing list.
Note
For added security, always share URLs with trusted individuals and consider upgrading to the Pro Plan if you need more robust privacy features.
