Setting Due Dates and Close Dates For an Assignment

In Scrible, the Due Date and Close Date are crucial for managing assignment timelines. These features allow educators to control when assignments are due and when they are officially closed for submissions. Here's how each works:

Due Date

The Due Date is the deadline by which students must complete and submit their assignments. As the instructor, you can specify the exact date and time each student needs to submit their work.

Close Date

The Close Date marks the final time, after which no further changes can be made to the assignment. It serves two key purposes:

  1. Late Submissions: If late submissions are permitted, students can submit their work after the due date but before the Close Date. Once an assignment is closed, students will see a Read Only notification on the assignment and cannot make any changes.
  2. Feedback and Revisions: Students can make updates based on feedback before the close date passes.

Important: Once the close date has passed, all student work is locked, regardless of whether the assignment was submitted. If students need additional time after the close date, you will need to edit the close date to extend it into the future.

Key Points:

How to Set the Due Date and Close Date

  1. Under the Assignments tab, select the assignment draft you want to modify or create a new assignment.

  2. Navigate to the Basics tab, where you'll find fields for both the Due Date and Close Date.

  3. Click the calendar icon next to each field to choose the desired date and time for the due and close dates.

  4. Ensure you save the changes to apply these dates to the assignment.

Setting these dates allows you to manage assignment deadlines effectively while providing flexibility for late submissions or revisions. Remember to monitor the close date; once it passes, students will lose the ability to edit their work unless the date is extended.
