Do Students Need the Scrible Extension to Use the App?
A common question we receive is:
“Is the Scrible extension required in order for students to utilize the app?”
The short answer is: Web based research will not be possible without the extension, but most other aspects of the platform can be utilized successfully.
✅ What Students Can Do Without the Extension
Students can access and use the full Scrible platform directly through the web by visiting www.scrible.com. Once logged in, they can:
Create and manage research projects
Upload or import sources
Annotate articles and PDFs
Generate citations and bibliographies
Collaborate and share with peers
Organize resources with tags and folders
In short, much of the core Scrible functionality is available without the extension.
🚀 What Students Cannot Do Without the Extension
📌 Save sources directly from web pages
📝 Highlight and annotate web articles without leaving the page
🔖 Automatically capture citation metadata from any online article (database, webpage, etc.)
📁 Instantly save web-based content into your Scrible Library
In short, all web-based research cannot be done without the extension.
🧑💻 IT Department Considerations
If you’re an educator or administrator and your school’s IT policy restricts browser extensions, we recommend contacting your IT team to request that the Scrible Toolbar Extension be pushed out or made available for student use. This will ensure students have access to the most streamlined research workflow. If you would like someone from Scrible to meet with your IT team, please reach out to us by submitting a help ticket.
