Resolving 'The Content I Selected Cannot be Annotated' Error
Encountering an Error While Annotating?
If you've received the message "The content you have selected cannot be annotated" while using Scrible, this typically points to a specific technical reason related to the web page structure.
Why Does This Happen?
- The web page you're trying to annotate likely utilizes WebComponents, a newer browser feature.
- WebComponents represent a shift in how web content is structured, but the standards for handling text selections with them are still in development.
- As these standards aren't finalized, third-party tools like Scrible currently can't access selections within these components.
What Are We Doing About It?
- Browser vendors are actively working to establish these standards, and we're keeping a close watch.
- Our goal is to integrate support for WebComponents into Scrible as soon as feasible.
Workaround for Now:
- A temporary solution is to print the web page as a PDF. See our article, PDF Management, for detailed instructions.
- Once you have the PDF, upload it to your Scrible Library.
- You can then utilize our robust PDF Annotation tools for your work.
